Jamee Suarez from the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals expressed excitement about the event’s growth. “This is our 21st year, and we’re really excited about it. It’s the biggest pet adoption event in Oklahoma,” Suarez said.
The event will feature various vendors related to pets and family activities, including face painting and balloon entertainment for children. The Oklahoma Alliance for Animals will also provide microchipping for a fee of $10 and pet identification tags for $5. Attendees can engage in raffles at different vendor booths throughout the day.
The primary focus of Woofstock is to connect animals with potential adopters. While some rescue groups may not complete adoptions on site, others will facilitate same-day adoptions. Suarez encouraged those hesitant about adopting to consider fostering pets instead, emphasizing the need for foster homes in the rescue community. “If there’s a dog that you’re iffy about, like, ‘Oh, I’d really like to have it, but I don’t know how that would work,’ foster,” she said. “We’re trying to save as many lives as possible, and it’s critical right now.”
Organizers are also urging attendees to keep their pets safe from the heat, as high temperatures are expected for the event. Jan Lavender from the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals advised those bringing dogs to take necessary precautions, stating, “They just can’t be on that hot pavement. So if they have little booties or whatever they need to do, plenty of water for your animals to make them comfortable.”
