A dog, named Ezra, was found injured and tied near a dumpster in St. Cloud, Florida, and is now receiving care from The Pittie Party of Central Florida after being released from an animal hospital. Sarah Schmidt, the president of the rescue organization, responded to the scene after learning of Ezra's abandonment eight days prior.

Schmidt described Ezra as terrified, with wounds on her legs and struggling to support herself on her back legs. Upon scanning Ezra’s microchip, police identified her owner, Patty Weddel, who expressed disbelief upon hearing the news. Weddel stated that Ezra and her littermate, Elvis, had been part of their family since they were rescued as puppies at three weeks old.
On Monday, a St. Cloud police officer met with Schmidt regarding Ezra's situation. Schmidt provided the police with a written affidavit containing information she obtained from a 7-year-old girl who reported the incident. The St. Cloud police are investigating the situation and have not confirmed the details provided by the rescue or indicated if charges will be filed.
Ezra's case follows an incident involving her littermate, Elvis, who reportedly attacked and killed another dog on or around September 23 and subsequently bit the dog's owner multiple times. Following the incident, Elvis’s owner surrendered him to Osceola County Animal Services, citing his dangerous behavior. The agency concluded that Elvis was not suitable for adoption and he was later euthanized.
Schmidt remarked on the emotional toll for dogs like Ezra, stating that they often wait in hopes of their owners returning after being abandoned. News 6 is actively seeking more information from the St. Cloud police regarding this case.
