K-9s engage in various training activities encompassing bite work, obedience, narcotics detection, and apprehension. This yearly recertification is crucial for their readiness in serving the communities.

Molly Jeszenszky, owner and trainer at Eternal K9, explained that each dog undergoes specific training tailored to their unique abilities and temperaments. For example, Boris, a K-9 in training, is being certified in narcotics detection and patrol work, which includes bite work and obedience. Jeszenszky emphasized the importance of communication with the dogs, noting that trainers must connect with them in a way that resonates with their instincts.

Justin Rigney, owner and trainer at K9 Services Unlimited, highlighted the need to bridge the gap between canine and human communication. Having a background as a former police officer, Rigney focuses on understanding dogs’ behaviors and emotions to foster effective partnerships between them and their handlers. He acknowledged the complexities of canine communication and emphasized the importance of meeting each dog at its level of understanding.

Eternal K9 is also open to the public for training, development, and obedience courses. Jeszenszky underscored that training is an ongoing process, crucial for keeping K-9 skills sharp and ensuring they are prepared when duty calls.
