The new Senior Care OWPs, developed with insights from Banfield's extensive medical records and industry best practices, include essential preventive services and advanced diagnostic tools. These plans are designed to identify age-related illnesses early, thereby making interventions more effective and affordable.
The Senior Care OWP offers services such as vaccinations, exams, and comprehensive diagnostic testing to detect signs of aging-related issues. The enhanced Senior Care Plus OWP builds on this by including all the services from the Senior Care plan, along with professional dental cleaning to promote oral health.
Dr. Alea Harrison, Chief Medical Officer of Banfield, stated that this evolution in offerings reflects Banfield’s leadership in preventive veterinary care, catering to the needs of pets and their owners. The Senior Care plans aim to make the management of aging pets’ health more convenient and accessible, allowing veterinary teams and pet owners to better identify and manage health issues.
The Senior Care OWPs provide a robust preventive care package, featuring six different diagnostic tests to monitor organ function and overall health. These include bloodwork to track changes and common age-related diseases, radiographs for bone and organ assessment, urine tests for kidney function and infections, blood pressure monitoring for pets on specific medications, and electrocardiograms for detecting heart issues. Notably, 17% of senior pets examined at Banfield's hospitals are diagnosed with cardiac problems, with 11% diagnosed with diabetes.
Banfield’s OWPs can be tailored to suit every stage of a pet's life, from kittens and puppies to senior pets. These packages include unlimited office visits, vaccinations, and exams, along with access to Banfield's 24/7 text-based veterinary advice service, Pet Chat™. Clients also benefit from digital access to medical records, payment options, and discounts on eligible services and products.
