A woman is facing 11 felony animal cruelty charges after 11 dogs were found living in filthy and cramped conditions in a Lake Worth-area home. The dogs have been rescued and are now recovering at Furry Friends Humane in Jupiter, while two other dogs remain at the home.

The dogs were discovered on August 22 when deputies went to the residence to serve a felony warrant for the woman's son. Upon entering the home, authorities found the animals living in unsanitary conditions, with some crammed into rusted wire cages stacked atop one another, without access to food or water. According to Nick Ferola, an adoption counselor at Furry Friends, the dogs exhibited fear and distress due to their confinement.
The sheriff's office noted they were living in feces and urine and were at risk of dehydration and illness. On Wednesday, deputies arrested 34-year-old Leslie Torres, who appeared in court on Thursday. She is currently out on a $52,000 bond and is scheduled for a hearing next month.
Ferola expressed hope for the dogs’ future, stating, "The happy ending will be when they get adopted." He reported that the dogs are showing improvement, becoming playful and healthy. Those interested in adopting can fill out an application on Furry Friends' website.
