Digitail's research indicates that while AI adoption has rapidly increased, many practices have not integrated it into their workflows effectively. A substantial number of practices have implemented AI without making corresponding changes to their operations, with nearly half lacking a strategic plan or designated responsibility for AI governance. In contrast, practices that have established a structured approach to AI report six times the business outcomes compared to those with less maturity.
Sebastian Gabor, CEO and co-founder of Digitail, highlighted the shift from whether veterinary professionals would use AI to how effectively they are utilizing it. He emphasized the importance of a strategic approach, which has been linked to better patient interaction, improved client retention, and increased revenue.
Daily or weekly interactions with AI tools are reported by 88.3% of users. The most common application is in clinical documentation, utilized by 62.8% of AI users. Additionally, 38.9% have attempted to create their own AI solutions, while 29.9% are considering such projects. Looking ahead, 79.8% of respondents expect AI to become integral to clinic workflows in the next five years.
The study also notes a decline in fears of job displacement, from 37.2% in 2024 to 20% in 2026. Conversely, concerns regarding data security and insufficient training have risen.
The analysis, conducted from July 27 to August 12, 2026, seeks to identify what differentiates successful AI implementations from those that do not yield measurable benefits, focusing on strategy, governance, and workflow design. The full findings are available for download at Digitail's website.
