During an episode of Live! on October 12, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos introduced a new puppy, Lucas, to viewers. Mark appeared with the four-month-old Shih Tzu on his lap, delighting the audience. "It is Columbus Day, it is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and it is, let me remind you, Mark is a Shih Tzu Man Day," Kelly said. She noted that the show was celebrating Adoption Week, referencing their previous pets, Chewie and Lena.

Kelly described her reaction to Lucas, saying, "Mark walked into my dressing room this morning with Lucas in his arms, and I saw a different you. I saw a kinder, gentler you." According to the show's website, Lucas was rescued from a puppy mill and would make a wonderful family pet.

Mark expressed his fondness for the new puppy and suggested the name Javier, to which Kelly humorously responded, "This is trouble. He’s naming this dog that we have not adopted."

Kelly shared her past preference for female dogs, noting, "I think because we’ve only had girl dogs. Boy dogs are great. And they get along better with the female dogs. They say that, in the house. That’s what they say," Mark added.

Toward the episode’s end, during The Inbox segment, fans encouraged the couple to adopt Lucas. One viewer commented, "I have always had male and female together, and it’s perfect. I also find male dogs are more affectionate. Go for it."

After the show, Kelly posted a video on Instagram of Lena meeting Lucas, captioning it, "When Lena Met Javi (Lucas)." The couple's daughter, Lola Consuelos, responded with curiosity, asking if Lucas would become part of the family. As of now, Kelly and Mark have not confirmed whether they have decided to adopt Lucas.
