MSPCA-Angell is encouraging the community to consider fostering or adopting cats after welcoming more than 60 felines this month. This influx is attributed to two significant surrender cases handled in coordination with the Massachusetts Animal Shelter Support coalition.

Earlier this month, 35 cats were voluntarily surrendered from a home in Worcester County. In addition, the Worcester Animal Rescue League took in 10 cats as part of the same initiative. On September 18, the MSPCA Northeast Animal Shelter also rescued 28 cats from another home in Berkshire County, while the Berkshire Humane Society accepted 25 cats from that location as well.
Mike Keiley, Vice President of Animal Protection at MSPCA-Angell, noted that the coalition framework aims to distribute the responsibility among shelters to manage major intakes that might exceed the capacity of any single organization. Law enforcement collaborated with pet owners to ensure humane resolutions for these surrenders.
Currently, approximately 300 cats and kittens are available for adoption across MSPCA's four shelters. The organization invites those unable to adopt to consider fostering, volunteering, or donating funds to support food and supplies.
