Amber Kostoff, HSCO Executive Director, stated, “There is no one right age to adopt. Some people love raising a puppy, while others are looking for an adolescent to join them on adventures or an older dog who is ready for a quieter home.” The HSCO client care team is available to help adopters find a suitable dog for their lifestyle.

Adoption packages include spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, collar, identification tag, and leash. Additionally, adopters receive a complimentary health exam at a participating veterinary clinic, food to aid the transition for their new pet, a toys-and-treats goodie box, and special offers from local pet-related businesses.

The standard adoption process remains in effect, and dog licensing fees are separate from the adoption fee. HSCO’s seasonal promotions aim to enhance access to adoptable pets by offering financial assistance and pet care support. So far in 2026, HSCO has facilitated 754 adoptions, helping animals find loving homes amid a current kennel capacity issue.

Additional shelter space is critical for meeting various community needs, including housing stray animals and providing urgent care. Those interested in adopting can view available dogs at hsco.org. HSCO is located at 61170 SE 27th St in Bend and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
