The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) is responding to a recall issued by Elanco regarding certain rabies vaccine lots. Shots administered between July 2025 and April 2026 may not have maintained their required potency. The recalled lots include: E155948A, E155949A, E158770A, E162767A, E162767C, E167567A, and E191877A. Pet owners unsure about their pets' vaccination records are encouraged to contact GBHS for assistance. It is important to note that this recall does not imply that any pets are currently sick or have rabies; it simply suggests that the vaccinations may not offer full protection for the full 12 months.

Dr. Russell Johnson, Chief Medical Officer of GBHS, emphasized the organization's commitment to pet health and safety, stating, “As soon as we learned of the manufacturer’s recall, we launched a free revaccination program for affected pets.”

Pet owners are advised to check their GBHS vaccination certificates for the lot number. If it matches one of the recalled lots, they can utilize the upcoming clinics:

- July 21, 2:00–4:00 p.m.

- July 28, 2:00–4:00 p.m.

- July 30, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

- August 4, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

- August 11, 2:00–4:00 p.m.

- August 17–21, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
