During this period, the fundraiser generated $480,000 for over 1,000 participating animal shelters. Since its inception 12 years ago, the "Clear The Shelters" campaign has aided in the adoption of 1.5 million pets and has funneled more than $6 million to shelters.
Meredith McGinn, NBC Local’s Executive Vice President of original production, emphasized the campaign's community impact, stating, "Clear The Shelters demonstrates what’s possible when our communities come together to help pets in need. We’re proud of the meaningful impact this campaign continues to have for shelters and pets across the country, and grateful to Hill’s Pet Nutrition and all our partners who help make Clear The Shelters possible."
The campaign saw participation from over 100 NBC and Telemundo stations, promoting various adoption events at around 1,200 animal shelters. Pets from 47 states, as well as Washington D.C., Guam, and Puerto Rico, were showcased to raise awareness of the adoptable animals in shelters.
