The Upland Police Department discovered hundreds of cats, some malnourished and neglected, while executing a search warrant on Monday morning at a nonprofit cat rescue in Upland. Authorities estimate that between 300 and 500 cats were present at the facility. The situation was brought to light following complaints from tenants of the building, who expressed concerns about possible abuse and neglect of the animals, alongside reports of unpleasant odors emanating from the rescue.
Some of the cats were found in poor condition, suggesting neglect and malnutrition, although it remains unclear if any had experienced other forms of abuse.
The nonprofit rescue operated mainly under the names Furry Friends Resort and Serenity Spa and Cat Lounge. At this time, no arrests or charges have been reported as the investigation continues.
