Broward Animal Care Waives Adoption Fees for Dogs and Cats Until September 30

Broward County Animal Care is collaborating with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to eliminate adoption fees for eligible dogs and cats from September 18 to September 30 as part of the national Empty the Shelters campaign. While the foundation will cover the adoption costs, adopters will still need to pay the Broward County pet registration fee.

Doug Brightwell, director of Broward County Animal Care, stated that “Every adoption changes two lives—the life of the pet going home and the life of the animal that can be helped because space has opened at the shelter.” This partnership aims to remove financial barriers, encouraging residents to adopt deserving pets.

Animal Care emphasizes that each adoption frees up space for additional animals entering the shelter, which can help reduce stress for current residents and enable staff and volunteers to offer more personalized care.

Prospective adopters are encouraged to select a pet that aligns with their lifestyle and to consider their capacity for long-term care.
