Joybound People & Pets has rescued eight Beagles, aged four to six years, who were voluntarily released from a closing research laboratory. Upon their arrival, each dog received comprehensive veterinary care, behavioral evaluations, and individualized support to prepare them for adoption into loving homes. Beagles are one of the most commonly used breeds in laboratory research due to their gentle temperament, cooperative nature, and physical characteristics, which make them suitable for medical and pharmaceutical testing. Consequently, many Beagles are still bred specifically for research purposes across the nation.
Miguel Abi-hassan, Chief Programs Officer at Joybound People & Pets, noted that recent years have seen significant changes in public and corporate policies, encouraging companies to shift away from animal testing. He emphasized the importance of being prepared to facilitate the transition of these dogs into loving homes.
With over two decades of experience in animal welfare, Abi-hassan has led numerous rescue efforts, including the historic rescue of 4,000 Beagles from a large-scale laboratory. He remarked that dogs from research settings are capable of forming deep bonds with families, just like any other dog, and with compassion and patience, they can become devoted companions.
