CLAREMORE, Okla. – In response to overcrowding in Tulsa-area shelters and rescues, 12 organizations are collaborating for a large adoption event this weekend in Claremore.

Organizer Jennifer Moscarelli highlighted that the event aims to increase visibility for adoptable pets by bringing multiple shelters to one location. "We save more lives. We can get more [to] their forever homes, clear up some space, help the rescues be able to rescue the ones from the shelters," Moscarelli said. She emphasized the importance of such events as shelters have reported declining visitor numbers.
Among the pets available for adoption is Tommy, a 6-month-old puppy who is described as friendly with both dogs and children. He remains the last of his litter of ten seeking a home.
The Paws and Pumpkins event will feature not only dogs and cats for adoption but also a range of family-friendly activities, including bounce houses, face painting, pumpkin painting, raffles, pet photo booths, and live demonstrations from dog trainers. A mobile pet spa and over 30 vendors will also be present. "We’re trying to make it a big family event, make it fun and give them a home," Moscarelli added. Attendance is free, though certain activities, such as purchasing pumpkins, will incur a cost.
For those unable to adopt, there are other ways to support local shelters and rescues, including donations, volunteering, or sponsoring a pet. Donations collected during the event will benefit the Claremore Animal Shelter, and attendees are encouraged to donate directly to participating rescues.
Paws and Pumpkins will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Claremore Expo Center, located at 400 Veterans Parkway.
