
CHAPEL HILL, Texas (KLTV) - A Smith County constable and a local resident successfully rescued a dog named Astro from a concrete hole filled with water on Wednesday in Chapel Hill. Constable Josh Joplin from Smith County Precinct 4 and a man identified as Mr. Lusk utilized a lariat rope to pull the dog out, as shown in video footage.

According to a Facebook post by Joplin, Lusk was in the area removing a tree from a fence when he heard the distressed barking and whimpering of the dog. Lusk then reached out to Joplin for assistance.
"Thank God for Citizens who listen to cries for help," Joplin stated. He expressed concern about how long Astro had been trapped in the hole. Once rescued, Astro was described as cold, scared, and weak. Joplin later reported that the dog was safely reunited with its family.
To ensure the dog was not harmed during the rescue, Joplin took photos and videos. He mentioned that Smith County Animal Control would conduct a follow-up on the situation.
