They made multiple visits to the shelter until they felt they could provide a stable environment for a puppy. Holtzman praised the staff at Española Humane for their professionalism and care, stating, "As soon as we went there, we were like, ‘OK, no matter what or when, we’re getting our puppy from here.’"

During their first encounter with Avocado, the puppy appeared anxious and reluctant to engage. However, over time, particularly with the incentive of treats, Avocado began to show her energetic side. The couple left the shelter after their initial meeting, planning to reflect on their decision but quickly reconsidered.

Margolies recalled, "We were 8 or 10 minutes down the road and just said, ‘If somebody else takes her, we will be devastated.’" They turned around and finalized the adoption.

At home, Avocado has revealed her playful nature, often jumping into her water bowl and attempting to escape her pen. Despite her initial shyness, she is becoming more confident. The couple hopes to take her on hikes and outdoor adventures. Margolies expressed joy in seeing Avocado's personality emerge, stating, "It’s just really special to see that personality come out and see her feel so comfortable."

During a recent interview, Avocado comfortably fell asleep in their arms, with Holtzman noting, "She’s playing the role very well. Perfect doggy."
