The initiative aims to manage the spread of rabies and ensure the safety of both pets and the community. KZNDARD has set an estimated goal to vaccinate approximately 900 pets, including both dogs and cats. The number is based on expected participation from local pet owners, highlighting the importance of a strong turnout to reach this target.
According to Vusi Khumalo, a spokesperson for KZNDARD, the campaign is part of an annual effort to maintain vaccination coverage and ensure the area remains free from rabies-positive cases. Currently, no rabies cases have been reported in the region. Khumalo emphasized that ongoing vaccinations and public awareness are crucial for preventing the disease.
Pet owners are advised to keep dogs on leashes and cats in secure carriers while attending the vaccination event.
