Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento is waiving all dog adoption fees through this Sunday as it contends with critical capacity and a decline in adoptions compared to last year. Hinderman emphasized the affordability of adoption, noting that all animals come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, which would typically cost over $1,000 at a private veterinarian.
From April 1 to April 30, the shelter reported 255 dog adoptions, down from 283 during the same time frame the previous year, representing a 12% decrease. Specifically, adoptions of adult large-breed dogs fell by 12%, while adoptions of large-breed puppies decreased by 15%.
The shelter operates daily from noon to 5 p.m., providing adoption counselors who assist potential adopters in finding a suitable dog.
