In June, the shelter declared a CODE RED emergency, caring for 459 dogs, with 285 housed on-site. Currently, the figure has risen to 536 dogs, including 321 on the premises, exceeding their space limits. In total, the organization looks after 1,083 animals, which includes 459 cats.
To alleviate the overcrowding, shelter officials have reached out to over 200 rescue organizations and partner shelters for relocation help. Shelter director Meaghan Colville highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, "We have exhausted our available kennel space, but the animals needing our help aren't going to stop coming in. We have wonderful, adoptable dogs waiting for homes, and every adoption or foster placement creates desperately needed space for another animal. We need our community's help right now."
The shelter is facilitating same-day adoptions with no pre-application necessary and encourages community members to consider fostering to create more available space. Interested individuals can get involved by emailing [email protected].
