This collaboration aims to address cat overpopulation issues in Hawaiʻi through ethical rescue practices, accessible veterinary care, and community education. GCN, established in 2021, has successfully transferred over 1,000 cats to rescue partners on the mainland via its Operation Aloha Cat program and recently introduced Have A Nice Spay, a monthly free spay and neuter clinic for local communities.
In this partnership, AFPF and GCN will enhance spay and neuter initiatives on Maui, coordinating clinic support, volunteering, and shared operational practices.
The collaboration is built upon GCN’s 2025 Core Principles and Code of Ethics, which stress integrity, accountability, fiscal responsibility, legal compliance, inclusivity, and a collaborative mindset. Both organizations are dedicated to providing compassionate care for animals while upholding transparent nonprofit governance.
Volunteers involved in joint clinics will adhere to GCN’s standards, promoting professionalism and animal welfare best practices.
By combining resources and operational planning, AFPF and GCN aim to:
- Expand access to monthly spay and neuter clinics
- Enhance community education on responsible pet ownership
- Support humane animal transfer practices
- Create sustainable solutions to reduce long-term overpopulation
Wendy Hornack, the Founder and President of AFPF, stated, "This partnership reflects our belief that collaboration is the key to lasting impact. We are excited to move forward together in 2026 and expand lifesaving services for our community."
As Maui tackles animal overpopulation challenges, AFPF and GCN are focused on practical solutions that protect animals and Hawaiʻi's delicate ecosystem. Together, they are committed to establishing a scalable model for rescue and prevention that emphasizes animal welfare, fiscal responsibility, and lasting community benefit.
