The Merced County Sheriff's Animal Services Bureau has announced the winners of its recent Persian cat adoption drawing. Selected applicants will receive a phone call, while those not chosen are encouraged to await the next adoption round.

The drawing was held for four Persian cats, part of a larger group of 134 cats rescued from a U-Haul van in Santa Nella on June 29. The bureau had opened a second round of applications for these cats.
Potential adopters were required to submit both a standard adoption application and a supplemental form specifically for Persian cats. These forms were available at the Animal Services location on Shuttle Drive in Atwater, as well as electronically via email.
Previously submitted applications could be reused if applicants indicated which cat they wished to adopt. After the application deadline on October 6, staff reviewed the submissions and held separate drawings for each cat. The winners were announced during an Instagram Live event on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., and those unable to view the event were contacted directly.
Animal Services noted that these Persian cats may require extra care and patience due to their challenging pasts.
