An investigation by the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. has led to the discovery of more than 500 living and deceased cats across multiple properties in Claremont and Upland. This search occurred on Monday as part of a larger ongoing animal welfare inquiry.

The investigation involved collaboration with Upland Animal Control and was supported by the animal rescue nonprofit Furget Me Not Cat Rescue. According to the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A., their animal control officers are engaged in domestic and wildlife rescue, as well as investigating cases of animal cruelty.
Nikole Bresciani, President and CEO of the humane society, expressed gratitude for the cooperation from Upland Animal Control and local police. She emphasized the commitment of the teams to ensure the animals receive the proper care they need.
During the searches, investigators looked for various forms of evidence, including expired medications for humans, used needles, pet carriers, and pet food. Disturbingly, officials found deceased cats stored in a freezer and others buried in the backyard of one property, with social media posts showing images of cat bones uncovered during the searches.
The rescued cats are being removed from the properties and will be provided with necessary medical attention, according to the humane society. It is expected that significant resources and time will be required for their care.
