Cats aged 9 years and older are eligible for free adoption, with the aim of providing these older felines a safe and comfortable environment for the remainder of their lives. "Too old to climb on your curtains, but young enough to climb on your lap. What’s not to love?" the agency stated in a promotional flyer.

The shelter sees thousands of animals each year. In 2018 alone, 800 cats were adopted, over 500 went to rescue partners, and around 100 were reunited with their owners. Despite the influx of kittens each spring and summer, senior cats often face the challenge of being overlooked due to perceptions that they are less desirable than younger animals.

“People adopting a senior pet are truly helping the most needy animals among shelter pets,” Animal Care & Control remarked. The agency encourages the community to consider adopting senior cats, aiming to foster greater awareness about their needs.
