Kano's reunion was sparked when his grandmother, who had raised him from puppyhood in the Blue Ridge Mountains, saw his photo online. Her son, Kano's original owner, had spoken of him as the most loving dog. However, due to challenging family circumstances after the young man joined the Army, the dog was rehomed and subsequently went missing.
Feeling an intuitive pull to search for Kano, his grandmother discovered his adoption listing. When she called him by his real name, he turned his head in recognition, prompting emotional responses from shelter volunteers.
Describing her feelings of joy along with guilt over the separation, she shared her remorse, stating she always felt he needed her. "I tell him every day I'm sorry I was doing the best I could do at the time and I love him so much," she said.
Kano is now back home in a fenced yard where he can run and play, although his original owner remains deployed overseas. They maintain their bond through FaceTime calls, filled with happiness and love.
