Clemson's Harvey S. Peeler College of Veterinary Medicine Sees High Demand with 1,277 Applicants

Steven Marks, the college's founding dean, expressed enthusiasm about the high number of applicants, stating, "This is an exciting time for our college. We are building on everything we learned leading up to this inaugural year while continuing to create an environment where our students can become outstanding veterinarians and where our faculty and staff can make a meaningful difference for the animals, people and communities we serve."

The admissions committee will begin the next phase of the selection process, inviting applicants for interviews in mid-October. The evaluations will consider interviews, applications, and letters of reference to select 60 in-state and 20 out-of-state students to join Clemson's class of 2031.

Clemson's veterinary program aims to address a significant shortage of veterinarians in South Carolina. Fourth-year students will complete their clinical training through partnerships with various clinical facilities across the state.

Tajuan Sellars, Director of Admissions and Student Services, acknowledged the challenges faced during the admissions process, stating, "Their professionalism, judgment and dedication laid an important foundation for the college and its approach to student selection. As the applicant pool grows, so does the impact of the admissions team and faculty committee members. Their time, expertise and commitment helped bring the inaugural class to Clemson and continue to shape the college’s future in veterinary education."

Faith Diemer, Student Services Coordinator, expressed excitement about welcoming the new class, highlighting the aim of Accepted Students’ Day to create a supportive atmosphere that helps new students feel confident about their future at Clemson.
