YUBA CITY, Calif. — The Yuba City Police Department has announced the retirement of K9 Rip, who dedicated several years to serving the community. The department shared details of Rip's achievements in a recent Facebook post.

Throughout his career, Rip was deployed nearly 300 times, contributing to 13 suspect apprehensions and 136 suspect surrenders. He conducted 59 article searches, which resulted in the discovery of 29 evidentiary items.
Rip also participated in K9 Trials in 2024, 2025, and 2026, where he earned a commendable overall placement in the 2025 Western States Police K9 Association Trial circuit. In recognition of his excellence, Rip was named the YCPD K9 of the Year in 2025. Alongside his handler, A. Mitchell, Rip completed nearly 1,000 hours of continued training.
After a commendable career, Rip will now enjoy his retirement as a family dog.
