The acceptance, ratified by the American Veterinary Dental College Board of Directors, attests to the product’s documented capability to reduce tartar build-up and emphasizes its role in improving preventive oral health practices among veterinarians. The VOHC panel includes nine members, consisting of veterinary dentists, dental scientists, and a nonvoting director.
The VOHC does not conduct product testing but evaluates submitted data to verify that products meet its clinical standards for plaque and tartar control. According to the VOHC, when a product meets the necessary efficacy requirements, it is awarded the Seal of Acceptance.
Clinical studies following VOHC protocols indicated that the Tartar Shield Pro Care Natural Pet Toothpaste significantly reduces tartar, plaque, and bad breath without requiring a brushing device, highlighting Tartar Shield’s commitment to enhancing pet oral care through scientific evidence.
Ellen Lowery, DVM, PhD, and director of the VOHC, noted that Tartar Shield shows a strong commitment to scientific standards in supporting the VOHC's mission. Established in the United States in 1998, the VOHC Seal of Acceptance is recognized internationally, now including regions like Canada, Europe, and Japan.
