The increase in multi-animal rescues can be attributed to several factors, including owners' mental health struggles, the rising cost of living, irresponsible breeding practices, and unneutered pets. The RSPCA has addressed an average of 410 multi-animal incidents each month in England and Wales this year. In Kent alone, there were 105 multi-animal rescues from January to August, compared to 188 in total for the whole of 2022.
One particular case involved the rescue of a lurcher named Jude, found in unsanitary conditions. The owner was later convicted of an animal welfare offense and received a 10-year ban from owning any animals.
