PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Since its opening on May 9, a nonprofit cat lounge has achieved over 180 adoptions, quickly establishing itself as a hub for animal lovers in the community. Deb Pearson, a volunteer, expressed excitement over the adoption success, stating, “We’re all volunteer-based, so everybody here is a volunteer and all the monies that we take in are for the kitties.”
Recently, the lounge celebrated Dolly Parton Day to honor the music legend and her Imagination Library initiative. Children under 12 received free entry, alongside book giveaways for guests. Pearson remarked on the spirit of the event, saying, “This is not my normal Friday gear, but we’re celebrating Dolly and the Imagination Library. We invite everybody to come and see us. Just get your kitty love. You don’t have to adopt—you just have to come in and have fun and pet kitties.”
Volunteer Kristian Cassidy shared the joy experienced by visitors and cats alike, noting, “The best part is to see the joy on their face, to be overwhelmed with happiness of being surrounded by cats.”
While the lounge attracts visitors from afar, its primary goal is to engage local residents. A loyalty program is in place, offering a free visit after five paid entries.
For those interested in adopting a cat, the process is designed to be simple: Applications include a standard background check, usually yielding approvals within 24 to 48 hours. Adoption fees are set at $125 for kittens under six months and $75 for cats older than six months. Volunteers maintain contact with adoptive families for updates and photos post-adoption.
The lounge invites the community to either find a new furry companion or enjoy an afternoon of playing with the resident cats.
