Green Mountain Iron Dog Competition Raises Funds for Retired K-9s

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) - The 27th annual Green Mountain Iron Dog Competition welcomed dogs of all breeds on a mile-and-a-half agility course designed to mimic the challenges faced by police K-9s. Held at Camp Kiniya in Colchester, this year's course included obstacles, long runs, and water crossings, offering a fresh experience as it changes annually.

Originally exclusive to police K-9s, the event now allows any dog to participate, with all proceeds benefiting the Vermont Police K-9 Association and Lacy’s Fund, which assists with medical expenses for retired police dogs.

Gayle Roy-Collin has participated in the event for five years with her 7-year-old Great Dane therapy dog, Laci Mae. Roy-Collin stated, "It keeps her sharp, keeps her socialized, and she loves it. She loves the people and she likes the dogs, and just the event; she likes to trail run, so this is a fun event."

Though not a police dog, Laci Mae enjoys the competitive atmosphere, showcasing the event's aim to include all dogs in this spirited challenge. Every entry fee contributes to the support of K-9 units statewide and ensures retired K-9s receive necessary care.
