The charity is looking to replace six aging shelter units that have served as a refuge for countless vulnerable cats over the years. These new, purpose-built cottages will be part of the rescue centre’s Retirement Village, a dedicated area aimed at providing lifelong comfort to cats unable to be rehomed due to age or ongoing medical needs.

The upgraded cottages will feature improved insulation and better facilities to create a safer and more comfortable environment for the cats. The design will also allow for the cottages to be dismantled and relocated if necessary, supporting the charity’s long-term goal to move to a larger, purpose-built rescue centre as part of the PURR Project.

For over 20 years, Shropshire Cat Rescue has cared for hundreds of stray, abandoned, and unwanted cats. The organization provides medical care, seeks loving homes, and educates the public on cat welfare. However, operating at full capacity poses challenges, particularly with the aging conditions of the current cottages, which affects the high standards of care the charity strives to maintain.

Dianne Beaumont, a trustee at Shropshire Cat Rescue, emphasized the importance of replacing the cottages for the wellbeing of the cats. She stated that the new units will create a more comfortable, safe, and clean environment, enabling the charity to continue its life-changing work.

The charity offers three sponsorship packages, starting from £500, allowing businesses of all sizes to contribute and receive recognition for their support. Sponsors will be invited to a special reception at Shropshire Cat Rescue once the cottages are completed, offering a chance to meet the team and see the finished project.
