When Gelato first arrived at the shelter, he was unable to stand or walk and was too small for any of the wheelchairs available there. Lead veterinary technician Mallory Smith constructed the initial wheelchair to help him get around. The shelter posted about Gelato's inventive device on social media, leading to widespread support and attention.

The excitement generated by Gelato's story culminated in the creation of a 3D-printed wheelchair specifically designed for him. "Thanks to everyone who liked, shared, and helped spread the word about Gelato, this little guy now has a 3D-printed custom wheelchair made especially for him!" Cincinnati Animal CARE stated in a social media post.

They also expressed gratitude to their Veterinary Assistant Lead, Mallory, and the medical team for their creativity and commitment to helping animals. The post regarding Gelato has since received thousands of likes and many comments from people celebrating his progress, with users expressing their affection for the kitten and enthusiasm for his new mobility aid.
