Federal and state authorities have detected Listeria monocytogenes in multiple Raaw Energy products, prompting the company to expand its recall from 8 lots to over 180. The affected products were distributed across 9 states and include all dog food manufactured between July 17, 2025, and December 23, 2025.

On May 22, 2026, Raaw Energy, which sells frozen dog food via online orders for in-person pickup, announced a voluntary recall of its products due to the contamination concerns. This expansion followed additional testing that confirmed the presence of Listeria in the company's frozen dog food after a consumer complaint about a sick dog.
Earlier in January 2026, the FDA issued a warning after tests conducted by officials in Connecticut and New Jersey found contamination in 8 unopened samples of Raaw Energy products. All tested positive for Listeria, with some also showing Salmonella and Campylobacter jejuni.
Despite an initial recommendation by the FDA for a recall, Raaw Energy did not take sufficient action until recent testing revealed further contamination. Following the New Jersey Department of Agriculture's testing of 4 additional samples, which all tested positive for Listeria, the company decided to recall all possibly affected products.
In a statement, Raaw Energy emphasized that the decision to recall all products made during that timeframe was taken "out of an abundance of caution," acknowledging that some items from that period had not been tested.
Since the FDA’s advisory in January, more consumer complaints have emerged regarding pets becoming ill after consuming the recalled food. The affected products were distributed in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
On May 21, 2026, Raaw Energy halted all production to address the contamination issues. In its announcement, the company highlighted plans to improve safety measures, including cleaning production areas and implementing new pathogen detection systems.
The FDA warns that pets infected with these bacteria can shed them even if they show no symptoms, posing health risks to people, particularly to vulnerable groups like young children and elderly adults. Consumers are advised to discard affected products and disinfect any surfaces that may have come into contact with the food or with infected animals.
Consumers can identify affected products by the manufacturing date code found on packaging. A complete list of the recalled items and their respective production dates is available on the FDA’s advisory page. Pet owners can report any related illnesses on the FDA Safety Reporting Portal or by contacting Raaw Energy directly.
