
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is waiving adoption fees for large dogs through Sunday to address the recent intake of over 100 dogs. In the past month alone, the ARL has accepted more than 500 animals from rescues throughout the state. To promote adoptions, Hill's Pet Nutrition is sponsoring the adoption fees for all dogs older than six months and weighing more than 40 pounds.

Megan Matamoros, director of shelter operations, stated that all dogs come fully vaccinated, microchipped, and altered, making them ready for homes. Matamoros also encouraged the public to consider fostering as an alternative to adoption, highlighting the need for temporary placements for dogs in respite care. This effort aims to alleviate pressure on the shelter's resources and staff during large-scale rescues.
