The Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center will waive pet adoption fees from September 18 to 30 as part of the BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event. This initiative allows Lafayette residents to adopt dogs and cats at no cost for nearly two weeks, facilitating new homes for adoptable pets and creating space for other animals in need.

Shelley Delahoussaye, the manager of the Lafayette Animal Shelter, stated, "If you've been thinking about adding a pet to your family, this is a great opportunity to visit LASCC and meet some of the animals who are looking for homes. Every adoption makes a difference, and we're grateful to BISSELL Pet Foundation for helping us connect more pets with loving families."

The shelter will be open for free adoptions during its regular hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Eligible pets adopted during the event will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before they go to their new homes. Interested residents are encouraged to visit the shelter, meet the pets available for adoption, and learn more about the adoption process.

Empty the Shelters, organized by the BISSELL Pet Foundation, is a nationwide program aimed at reducing adoption costs and connecting shelters with new pet owners. Since its inception in 2016, it has helped over 431,000 pets find homes across the United States and Canada. For the Lafayette shelter, this September event serves as another opportunity to connect families with animals needing homes.
