A kitten named Enola is safe after being thrown from a moving pickup truck into traffic on Stirling Road in Broward County on Sunday. Rivera swerved to avoid hitting the stunned kitten, quickly pulled over, and ran back to rescue her. She found Enola lying on the road, meowing after her fall, and immediately took her to an emergency pet clinic. Remarkably, Enola suffered no broken bones or serious injuries from the incident.
Rivera has adopted the kitten, describing her as playful and affectionate despite her traumatic experience. "I don't know how she is fine. I still can't believe she didn't break anything," she said. Rivera expressed gratitude for Enola, saying, "She's so sweet. I couldn't have asked for a better cat."
This incident coincides with the upcoming implementation of a new state law aimed at reducing animal cruelty, which will make it a felony for adults to encourage minors to abuse animals. The law also increases penalties for animal fighting and enhances background check processes for pet adoptions through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Zachary Rinkins from Broward Animal Care noted that the new database would help identify anyone with a history of crimes related to animal cruelty and violence.
Rivera hopes that Enola's story will raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption.
