The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center will host its 16th annual drive-through rabies vaccination clinic for dogs on Sunday, October 4, at the Cajundome, located at 444 Cajundome Blvd. The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon, with gates closing at 11:30 a.m. Participants are advised to enter through Gate 8 off Congress Street.

This clinic, organized in partnership with WildCat SpayNation for Dogs & Cats, will offer rabies and DAPPV vaccinations for dogs at no cost. Additionally, a limited number of $20 spay/neuter vouchers and cash-only microchipping services will be available for $20.
Shelter Manager Shelley Delahoussaye noted that the clinic typically attracts large crowds and encouraged participants to arrive early. “We anticipate a high turnout,” Delahoussaye said. “We serve over 1,000 dogs each year.”
According to Louisiana law, dogs must receive rabies vaccinations starting at three months of age. Delahoussaye indicated that the shelter has issued 41 citations this year for failure to comply with this requirement.
Outside of the annual clinic, the shelter provides low-cost rabies vaccinations year-round for $10 to any pet in Lafayette Parish. Delahoussaye emphasized the importance of vaccination in protecting pets from rabies exposure. She advised, “The first and most important line of defense is ensuring your pet is vaccinated against rabies. If your pet is scratched or bitten by a wild animal, contact your local veterinarian.”
The event is supported by the Cajundome, ASPCA, Petco Love, BISSELL Pet Foundation, and WildCat SpayNation for Dogs & Cats.
