Banfield is covering adoption fees and providing complimentary Senior Care Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs) for senior pets, which include a full year of preventive care tailored for older animals. Additionally, Royal Canin is contributing six months of specialized nutrition for these pets.
Dylan Efron, a rescue dog owner, is helping to emphasize the joys of adopting older pets. He noted, "My rescue dog, Booey, still acts like a puppy, but it pains me to think that he might still be waiting at the shelter if we hadn’t crossed paths. I’m excited to show how much older pets have to offer and help them find loving homes."
According to the ASPCA, senior dogs are adopted at rates significantly lower than their younger counterparts, often at half the rate. Banfield's initiative not only highlights adoptable senior dogs and cats but also underscores the message that age should not deter potential adopters.
To further this cause, Banfield will support six selected shelter pets by covering their adoption fees and providing them with the Senior Care OWP. This plan includes comprehensive preventive care, advanced diagnostics, and a free consultation for emergency or specialty care at BluePearl Pet Hospital. The nutrition provided by Royal Canin is specifically formulated to meet the needs of aging pets, ensuring adopters can support their companions' health.
For over 30 years, Banfield has been a leader in preventive veterinary care, offering more than two million pet owners budget-friendly plans. The newly introduced Senior OWPs are designed to proactively address the unique health needs of older pets.
Dr. Alea Harrison, Chief Medical Officer at Banfield, emphasized the importance of proper care for pets as they age, stating, "We believe every pet deserves the opportunity to thrive throughout all stages of life. Our Senior Optimum Wellness Plan is aimed at ensuring a happy, healthy future for these pets."
Dylan Efron and Banfield will be showcasing the six senior pets available for adoption in Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Tampa, and New York. For additional resources on pet adoption and care, Banfield offers expert tips and nutrition advice through their platform.
